Brian Orouke_resize
Brian O’Rourke Ph.D. (The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine)
Vice chair of Basic and Translational Research

Professor, Department of Medicine - Division of Cardiology Interests: His laboratory uses an integrated approach to study the biophysics, energetics and physiology of cardiac cells in normal and diseased states. His research is particularly interested in the interplay between ion gradients, redox/ROS balance and energy supply, which, when disrupted, can trigger nonlinear mitochondrial responses that scale to cause global cardiac dysfunction. Animal models and in vitro platforms for studying the mechanisms underlying heart failure, sudden cardiac death, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and metabolic disease are leveraged to develop new therapeutic approaches.
