Immersive Training in the Glycosciences

The overarching goal of Immersive Training in the Glycosciences is to support the transition of researchers into independent positions studying the role of glycans in the pathophysiology of disease. In addition to a tailored professional development plan, fellows will have the opportunity to interact with eminent researchers in a broad range of fields including glycoscience, as well as obtaining a strong foundation in the glycosciences through their participation in “Foundations in Mammalian Glycoscience” and “Longitudinal Training in Glycosciences”.

Foundations in Mammalian Glycoscience - The goal of this course is to provide scholars with a comprehensive introduction to the chemistry and language of the glycosciences, as well as the variety of functional roles that glycans and glycan binding proteins play in mammalian physiology. Time and location: TBD
Longitudinal Training in Translational Glycosciences - Scholars will meet twice a month for 90 minutes for ongoing professional development that includes:

  • Advanced topic lectures

  • Thematic literature reviews

  • Glycoscience seminar series

  • Research in progress

  • Hand-on-laboratory courses

  • Annual Retreat

Time and location: TBD

Glycoscience exchange: Scholars will have the opportunity to visit one of the other consortium sites (Boston, MA; San Diego,CA; Milwaukee,WI) each year to participate in additional laboratory training.
