Foundations in Mammalian Glycoscience - The overarching goal of this course is to provide scholars with a comprehensive introduction to the chemistry and language of the glycosciences as well as the variety of functional roles that glycans and glycan binding proteins play in mammalian physiology. The course format is 7x 90-minute lectures, each followed by a 1-hour journal club that illustrates key concepts discussed in that lecture. Class Overview: 1) Terminology, Chemistry, & Nucleotide sugars; 2) Glycoproteins; 3) Glycolipids and GPI anchors; 4) Hyaluronan & Proteoglycans; and 5/6) Glycan binding protein structures and functions; and 7) Overview of Glycans in Human Disease. Handouts and Lectures will be made available at the completion of the course. The time and location of the course will be available shortly.
